About Business Days Calculator
Business Days Calculator is a free tool for working out business days: how many fall between two dates, and which date you reach when you add or subtract a number of them from a date.
How the calculations work
Every calculation runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to a server.
- The weekend is Saturday and Sunday unless you change it.
- US federal holidays are computed from the rules in federal law (5 U.S.C. 6103), not typed in by hand each year. Fixed-date holidays such as Independence Day use their date. Holidays such as Thanksgiving use their rule, for example the fourth Thursday of November.
- A holiday on a Saturday is observed on the Friday before. A holiday on a Sunday is observed on the Monday after. The calculator skips the observed date, which is the day federal offices close.
- Every result says whether the start date and the end date were counted, and lists the weekend days and holidays that were skipped.
Accuracy
The computed holiday dates are checked by automated tests against the federal holiday list published by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management for 2024 through 2030. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is included from 1986 and Juneteenth from 2021, the years they became federal holidays. Older changes to the holiday rules are not modeled, so results for dates before 1986 may differ from the holidays observed at the time.
The calculator does not know about state or local holidays, or days your employer, court or bank closes for other reasons. Add those under "Other days off" on the calculator. For legal or contractual deadlines, check the rules that apply to you.
